The Utah Optometric Association invites you to our last continuing education event of the year: the 2025 MEGA CE Conference and Fall Quarterly Business Meeting. This two-day event offers a unique opportunity to earn high-quality CE credit, connect with colleagues, and stay up to date on key issues impacting optometry in Utah.


This year’s event will feature a fun sports team theme! Come dressed in your favorite team shirt or jersey—whether you're repping your college alma mater or your favorite pro team, we want to see your spirit! Let’s have some fun, show support for our favorite teams, and enjoy a relaxed and lively environment while gaining valuable education.


Friday:

Bios:

Dr. Benjamin Buckner, MD: 

Dr. Buckner is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained cornea and refractive surgeon specializing in LASIK, PRK, ICL, and cataract surgery. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the Utah Ophthalmology Society. He grew up in Lindon, Utah, and earned an undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University (cum laude, Edwin S. Hinckley Scholarship). Dr. Buckner attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School (AOA Honor Society scholarship) and interned at the Boise VA Medical Center. After completing his ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri, he had a fellowship in Corneal Disease and Refractive Surgery at Hoopes Vision. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Buckner remains part of our practice amongst our team of medical professionals. He and his wife, Debi, have four children. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, water sports, and learning music.


Dr. Timothy Earley, OD

Timothy Earley, OD, currently serves as a Therapeutic Optometrist and Vice President of Human Resources at the Medina Vision and Laser Centre in Medina, OH. His interests include the monitoring and management of age-related macular degeneration, dry eye and ocular surface disease, and the fitting of multifocal contact lenses. Dr. Earley is also the Clinical Director of the Bright Eyedeas Optical Clinic at the Medina County Career Center, where students in the optical technology/visual sciences program can work with Dr. Earley to provide no cost eye exams and glasses for those in need. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Ohio Optometric Association, and is also a national speaker and consultant in the areas of specialty contact lenses, macular degeneration, and practice management.


Dr. David Griffin, MD:

Dr. David Griffin is a comprehensive ophthalmologist who enjoys treating the full spectrum of ophthalmic disease and evaluating all eye care needs. He has a keen interest in cataract and refractive surgery and offers the latest advances in surgical eye care including advanced technology lens implants to address surgical correction of astigmatism and presbyopia. He also offers laser-assisted cataract surgery, LASIK, PRK, ICL, refractive lens exchange, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, and more.

Dr. Griffin chose ophthalmology because improving a patient’s vision is a profound experience and something he finds deeply rewarding. He has a genuine desire to provide exceptional medical and surgical care for every patient he meets. On a personal note, Dr. Griffin loves spending his free time with his incredible wife and beautiful daughters. They enjoy exploring the beauty of Utah together and staying active. You may also find him playing the drums, trail running, or on the soccer pitch.


Dr. Kristin Bretz, MD

Dr. Kristin O. Bretz is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgeryglaucoma treatment, and comprehensive eye care.

Dr. Bretz has been dedicated to ophthalmic research throughout her academic and professional career. She has published and presented on a range of topics, including ocular surface disease, glaucoma risk and management, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).

Dr. Bretz has volunteered her time and services with several charitable organizations, including Unite for Sight, with whom she served as a Global Impact Fellow in Bihar, India. She currently acts as a director of Working Vision, an organization which is dedicated to treating and preventing work related injuries in developing countries by distributing safety information and equipment and improving access to care. She has performed charity surgeries for those who have no access to care and has traveled to Micronesia, Mongolia, the Navajo community and Sonoma county teaching other doctors and professionals about state of the art ophthalmic procedures and techniques.


Dr. Tyler Rawlins, OD:

Dr. Rawlins has a passion for optometry. He knows firsthand the miracle of LASIK experiencing the life changing difference after wearing glasses since he was eight years old. That experience sparked his interest in optometry, and he has never looked back.

Dr. Rawlins enjoys giving back to the community by volunteering his time and talents serving medical missions helping people who do not have access to medical or vision care.


Dr. Bryan Monson, MD:

To provide his patients exceptional vision results, Dr. Bryan Monson combines top medical experience, world-class technology, ultra-modern surgical techniques, and a compassionate and expert staff. He specializes in advanced refractive cataract surgery as well as laser vision correction refractive procedures to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia. 

A leader and innovator in the field of refractive surgery, Dr. Monson was awarded a top research award for his work in intraocular lenses by The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has played significant investigator roles during numerous clinical trials, with his research published in many professional journals. 

Dr. Monson pioneered several refractive surgeries in the region, including astigmatic SmILE, TRIFOCAL IOLs, and Light Adjustable Lenses, and he implanted the first TORIC ICLs in the State of Utah. He invented the Monson SmILE fixation device and remains a member of the ASCRS Zeiss SmILE expert panel. 


Dr. Reid. Cluff, OD:

Dr. Reid Cluff originally hails from Orem, UT. He did his undergraduate studies at Johnson & Wales University in Denver, CO. He then graduated from optometry school in San Antonio, TX at the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry with his Doctor of Optometry degree. Graduating summa cum laude, he took an active leadership role in the American Optometric Student Association. Additionally, he was inducted into both Beta Sigma Kappa and Gold Key International Optometric Honor Societies. Following graduation, he completed a residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, focusing on corneal disease and specialty contact lenses. With this specialized training, Dr. Cluff enjoys fitting “medically necessary” and “hard to fit” contact lenses on patients with keratoconus, high astigmatism, corneal transplants, dry eyes, as well as many other corneal and ocular surface diseases. Since completing his residency, he has worked in group optometric practice as well as a cataract and refractive surgery center. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters, running, martial arts, and being in the great outdoors.


Dr. Spencer Johnson, OD:

Dr. Johnson received a B.S. in Neuroscience from Brigham Young University, and his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.  He is currently a professor at Rocky Mountain University College of Optometry in Provo, Utah.  Dr. Johnson’s clinic interests include ocular disease, lasers, contact lenses, and advanced optometric procedures.  Prior to joining the faculty at Rocky Mountain, he was a faculty member at the Oklahoma College of Optometry for 12 years where he taught courses in neuro-ophthalmic disorders, healthcare systems, and epidemiology, as well as trained students in the clinic on lasers and advanced optometric procedures.  Dr. Johnson is a principal investigator in the NIH funded RAPID study to evaluate the efficacy of povidone iodine in the treatment of viral conjunctivitis.  He has given continuing education lectures at national, regional, and state association meetings throughout the United States and Canada.  Prior to his career in academia, Dr. Johnson worked in the refractive surgery industry, and owned a private practice.  In his free time, he enjoys running, swimming, and spending time on the lake with his family.
