This event is $80 for all UOA Members. It is $200 for all non-UOA members.

Discover how the latest research in ocular nutrition is transforming patient outcomes and reshaping best practices in optometry. This session delivers practical strategies, evidence-based supplement guidance, and simple systems to integrate nutrition seamlessly into your patient care.
5:30 – 6:30 pm: CE Course: The Overlooked Side of HIPAA: IT Controls, AI Risks & Practice Protection with John Siggard (Cope Pending)
This course examines the often-overlooked technical requirements of the HIPAA Security Rule and their practical application within optometric practices. While HIPAA is frequently discussed in terms of policies and privacy, this session focuses on the IT safeguards required to protect electronic protected health information (ePHI), including risk assessments, access controls, encryption, audit logging, and vendor management.
The course will also explore how emerging artificial intelligence (AI) tools introduce new compliance and cybersecurity risks, particularly when handling patient data. Participants will review how AI usage intersects with HIPAA requirements, national cybersecurity standards such as NIST, and common vulnerabilities within small healthcare practices.

9 – 10 am: CE Course: Advanced Anterior Segment Disease with Dr. Sean Cushman (COPE Course ID: 103072-TD)
This course offers a focused review of the diagnosis and management of key ocular surface and corneal conditions, including ocular surface squamous neoplasia and peripheral ulcerative keratitis. Attendees will also review lattice corneal dystrophy types I–IV, with emphasis on clinical features and when a systemic workup is indicated.
10 – 11 am: CE Course: Advanced Ocular Surface Disease with Dr. Sean Cushman (COPE Course ID: 102772-TD)
This course will focus on updates in advanced ocular surface disease and new management options. We will discuss lid disease, neurotrophic keratitis, limbal stem cell deficiency, and advanced dry eye diagnosis and review new treatment options including amniotic membranes, serum tears, plasma tears, perfluorohexyloctane, lid treatment devices, lotilaner, cenegermin and topical insulin.
11 – 12 pm: CE Course: Glaucoma an Overview on Diagnosis and Management with Dr. Brian Bird (Cope Pending)
This course Overviews the diagnosis and management of primary and secondary glaucoma. This course will review the pertinent risk factors for progression, the pros and cons of different treatments to include drops vs SLT for initial treatment, the relevant studies that have shaped our current guidelines and practical examples to prepare for treating patients in the clinic.
