Organization Mission: Friends for Sight is a nonprofit organization committed to preventing blindness and improving sight for individuals in Utah and the Intermountain West. We provide free vision screenings, prescription eyeglasses, and other sight-saving services to individuals who otherwise would not have access to them.

Position Summary: The Vision Technician and Optician Position at Friends for Sight performs a variety of vision clinic duties. Friends for Sight runs 3 part-time clinics and provides stand-up mobile vision clinics across the state. Our biggest events are SightFest events where we set up 6 vision lanes and pre-exam stations, serving up to 100 students a day.

This position is critical to our ability to reduce barriers and ensure eye care access to underserved communities across Utah.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform a variety of duties within the vision clinic and office including but not limited to assessing patient applications and eligibility, triaging, scheduling appointments, and coordinating with community partners, school districts, etc.

• Conduct preliminary ocular testing including all protests such as but not limited to: lensometry, autorefraction, tonometry, topography, OCT, and visual fields.

• Maintain accurate documentaries of patient care, condition, concerns, and medical history.

• Assist patients with eyeglass frame styling, measurements, adjusting, and small repairs.

• Travel to partner locations, clinics, and events locally and across various areas of the state.

• Assist with the planning and implementation of SightFest events.

• Collaborate with staff to develop and implement program goals, strategies, and metrics.

• Other duties relevant to this position may be assigned to you at any time.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience working with underserved populations and communities preferred.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience working with electronic medical records OR willingness to learn.

• Experience working in a vision clinic as a technician or optician OR willingness to learn.

• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
